Conservatory Dance Classes
Tuesday - $90/Term with Instructor Ingrid LaVoie - Jan. 21 - Mar. 7, 2019
Primary Ballet 2 (grades K-2) Tuesdays from 3:00-4:00pm: Class participants will continue to enjoy a playful approach to the basics of ballet. Building on the basic positions and postures of Primary Ballet 1, students will progress to more advanced exercises at the barre and on the floor with an emphasis on the sheer joy of moving to music. Through the use of creative and lively dance exercises and dance stories, students will grow in their understanding of posture and alignment, musicality, strength, and grace. Dance is a gift from God, and we will explore what it means to delight in this good gift and to glorify our Creator through this classic art form!
Ballet 1-2 (grades 3-6) Tuesdays from 4:10-5:10pm: Students will build on the ballet techniques learned in earlier levels and move into more complex movement patterns and exercises at the barre and in the centre, adding rhythm and character steps for enjoyment and creative expression. Empahsis will be placed on form, posture, alignment, musicality, strength and grace - all intended to instill a deep appreciation for this classic art form. As dance belongs to God, we will explore what it means to glorify and enjoy our good Creator through dance!
Ballroom Basics (ages 12 and up - PARENTS WELCOME!) Thursdays from 4:30-5:30pm: This class builds a foundation for partner dancing with a focus on the fundamental techniques of frame, posture, alignment, and lead & follow principles that ensure dancing is a smooth and harmonious experience for both partners. Students will learn the basic tecniques and patterns of one of the three classic ballroom dances: waltz, foxtrot, and tango in a fun, positive, and relaxed setting that will build confidence and uphold respect and harmony pleasing to God. (Fathers and mothers are welcome to join us! You may sign up together or we would gladly take a father alone as we are likely to have a shortage of fellas.)
We will not be offering Acting Classes during the Winter Term. Check back again in the Fall!
Monday 3:15-5:15pm - $180/Term (+$20 for art supplies) (grade 3 to adult) with Instructor David Clemons. Jan. 21 - Mar. 7, 2019
Seeing something in three dimensions and capturing that vision on a two dimensional surface is challenging. Drawing is often thought of as a mysterious talent that only a gifted few possess. I disagree. Drawing is more like learning to play the piano. While not every student will become a concert pianist, anyone can learn to play if equipped with foundational skills that they are willing to practice. In this class I will give you skills and concepts, that if applied, will help you to see better and draw more confidently.
