Academy for the Creative and Performing Arts

The Academy for the Creative and Performing Arts exists to provide the connection between working Christian artists and the next generation. Many creatives have a passion for passing on their creative skills to the next generation. The Oaks Conservatory operates The Academy to facilitate the pressing of creative knowledge into the future.

 

Ballet Classes

Ballet Classes

Primary Ballet (grades K-2) Tuesdays 3-4pm (9/17/19 thru 6/9/20) $60/mo.

Instructor: Mrs. Ingrid LaVoie

Class participants (with or without dance background) will enjoy a playful approach to dance exploration and the basics of ballet. Building on the main positions and postures of Ballet, students will progress to more advanced exercises at the barre and on the floor with an emphasis on the sheer joy of moving to music. Through the use of creative and lively dance exercises and dance stories, students will grow in their coordination and strength, as well as their understanding of posture, alignment, musicality, and grace. Dance is a gift from God, and we will explore what it means to delight in this good gift and to joyfully glorify our Creator. (Ballet shoes and dance wear required - see below)

Ballet I (grades 3-6) Tuesdays 4:15-5:15pm (10/29/19 thru 6/9/20 - This class begins after The Oaks Cross Country season concludes) $60/mo.

Instructor: Mrs. Ingrid LaVoie

Students (with or without dance background) will receive an overview of ballet basics and progress quickly to more complex techniques and exercises at the barre and in center floor, adding rhythm and character steps for enjoyment and creative expression. Emphasis will be placed on form, posture, alignment, musicality, strength and grace – all intended to instill a deep appreciation for dance in general and ballet especially. As the year progresses, students will apply their technique by learning short choreographies and dance stories, exploring the joy of dancing in a group. As dance belongs to God, we will explore what it means to glorify and enjoy our good Creator through dance. (Ballet shoes and dance wear required - see below)

Ballet Attire Info: Leotards and tights for the female dancer (black and pink - any combination - are traditional but not necessary). Boys may wear athletic wear that does not hide the lines (shape) of the body. Ballet shoes are required. Hair must be secured away from the face and up off the neck. No dangling jewelry.

Oaks Conservatory Release Waiver - please fill out and turn in this form on the first day of class. Students will not be allowed to participate until this form is received by the teacher.

Ballroom Basics Class

Ballroom Basics Class

Ballroom Basics (ages 12-adult: PARENTS WELCOME!)

Fridays 3-4pm (9/27/19 thru 11/1/19) $100/person

Instructor: Mrs. Ingrid LaVoie

This class builds a foundation for partner dancing with a focus on the foundational techniques of frame, posture, alignment, and lead & follow principles that ensure dancing is a smooth and harmonious experience for both partners. Students will learn the basic techniques and patterns of one of the three classic ballroom dances: waltz, foxtrot, and tango in a fun, positive, and relaxed setting that will build confidence and uphold respect and harmony pleasing to God. Fathers and mothers are welcome to join us! (See below for dance attire)

Ballroom Clothing Info: Ballroom students should wear comfortable and modest dance/athletic wear appropriate for the class. Ladies should wear a mid-length skirt that flows and men may wear comfortable pants. Character/ballroom shoes are required for ladies and men may wear dress shoes or ballroom shoes.

Acting Fundamentals

Acting Fundaments (grades 7-12) Thursdays 3-4:30 pm (10/10/19 thru 11/14/19) $150/person

Instructor: Dr. James Becker

In this class our goal will be to understand the acting process as we approach acting from a Biblical, Christian perspective that is unique and exciting. Dr. Becker will explore…

1. How to train our voice and body to be effective as actors.

2. How to understand our personal relationship to the characters we play.

3. How to find what drives our characters.

4. To learn the basic techniques of acting.
