Primary Strings Orchestra
Primary Strings I (1st–3rd grade)

Developing your own sound with the string instrument you’ve chosen to play is exciting. combine that with a whole family of instruments, and you’re in for quite the adventure! Join Mr. Jenkins and the Primary Strings ensemble to discover the beauty, richness, and power of orchestral music for yourself.
Members of the ensemble will embark on a journey through music history as they learn to play together with a conductor. Primary Strings will be comprised of violin, viola, cello, and double bass players in 1st–6th grade, and will provide an excellent foundation for ensemble participation later in life. *Each student must be concurrently enrolled in private lessons.

Regis Cantores Men's Choir

The Conservatory Regis Cantores is an ensemble for men and their sons (and their grandsons, and their neighbors’ sons) seeking to grow in faith, wisdom, and courage through song. (II Chronicles 20:21; Joshua 6:20) No singing experience is required! This class will take singers of all abilities to the next level and will prioritize singing with great joy and fervor. This father-son chorus will strike the balance between being fun loving, skill building, and performance focused.

Primary Ballet
Dance Foundations — Primary Ballet (JrK & K)

Class participants will learn to enjoy a creative and playful approach to the basics of classical ballet. Building on positions and postures, young students will progress to more advanced exercises at the barre and on the floor with an emphasis on the sheer joy of movement to music. Through the use of creative and lively dance exercises and dance stories, dancers will grow in their understanding of posture and alignment, musicality, strength, and grace. Dance is a gift from God, and we will explore what it means to delight in this good gift and to glorify our Creator through movement.
Dance Attire Info: Leotards and tights for girls (black and pink – any combination) are recommended. Leggings and t-shirts are also acceptable. Boys may wear well-fitting sweatpants and t-shirts that do not limit movement. Ballet shoes or jazz shoes are required. Hair must be secured away from the face and off the neck. No dangling jewelry.
Ballet & Lyrical I
Dance Foundations — Ballet & Lyrical I (grades 1-3)
Tuesdays 3:45-4:45 pm (10/24/23 thru 05/21/24)

This class is for true beginners or returning students who are ready to execute simple classical ballet movements and lyrical styles. Emphasis will be placed on mastery of fundamental ballet positions and moving through positions with proper posture. Students will learn beginner-level French ballet terminology and grow in musicality, strength, poise, and their application of dance as a gift from God.

This class will give new and returning students a chance to grow in their artistry and love for dance through classical ballet movements and lyrical styles. Emphasis will be placed on French ballet terminology, building strength & flexibility, and movement with poise. This class will also serve the beginning/intermediate dancer who wants to learn the terminology of choreography, and get a little movement help for auditions and the school musical in the spring. Students will explore foundational and more advanced elements of dance while growing in grace and joy of the Lord.

Ballet Intermediate Foundations
Dance Foundations — Intermediate (by invitation only)

This class will help the intermediate dancer grow in strength, poise, proper body alignment, turnout, technique, and creative expression by building on the ballet foundation established in prior years. The focus of the class will be to dance “for beauty and glory” (Exodus 28:2, 40). Drawing on students’ understanding of classical ballet vocabulary and positions, this class will progress to more advanced exercises at the barre and center floor with emphasis on joy of graceful, coordinated movements phrases and longer combinations.
Dress Code:
— black short-sleeve leotard with or without wrap-over skirt
— pink ballet tights
— leather or satin ballet shoes
— any color cross-over cardigan (optional)
— hair neatly tied back or in a bun

Introduction to Calligraphy (5th grade–adult)
Mondays & Wednesdays 3:30-4:30 pm (03/04/24 thru 03/27/24)
Class Fee: $100
Instructor: Mr. Spencer Ansett
Learn the introductory strokes of the fine art of calligraphy. This class will introduce Roundhand script and familiarize students with the tools of the trade. There will be a strong emphasis put on the correct technical foundations of the art, as well as examples of how to best develop and utilize this skill. Calligraphy is a timeless art form that can be enjoyed throughout life, in addition to being a marketable skill in high demand! Join Mr. Ansett and learn to delight in the discipline of hand lettering.
Students will receive their own high-quality paper, ink, calligraphy nib and nib holder for use in class and to keep afterward (a $20 value!) and for use in future classes.
Percussion for Orchestra

Fundamentals of Percussion Technique (6th-12th Grade)

Percussion Class will function as a group lesson for students participating in The Oaks instrumental ensembles. Students will study the appropriate technique for a wide variety of percussion instruments used in the orchestral setting. The repertoire for the class will consist of the music chosen for performance by the Oaks Orchestra.
